The Benefits of “Cleaning Microfiber”

Microfiber is a synthetic fiber comprised of polyester and polyamide nylon fibers  bundled together in a strand that is approximately 1/16th the size of a human hair.  is practically microscopic. When high-quality microfiber is combined with the right knitting process, it creates an extremely effective cleaning material. Generally, the more times a fiber is split, and the more times those fibers are woven to create the completed fabric, the more likely a cloth will be considered to be of a higher grade.

Quality microfiber  has more than 40 times the surface area of normal fiber and therefore has more contact points on the area being cleaned. The microfibers are moreover both positively-charged, which facilitates efficient attraction of (negatively-charged) dust, and  about 1/16 the thickness of human hair, such that they can penetrate the microscopic surface pores of most surface materials.

Institutions that have switched from conventional cleaning tools to microfiber towels and mops have generally found that the change has resulted in three main economic benefits:

  • 60 percent lifetime cost savings for mops – Microfiber mop heads can be washed in excess of 500 times, compared to approximately 55 for a conventional mop.
  • 95 percent reduction in chemical costs associated with mopping – After switching to a microfiber cleaning system, the U C Davis Medical Centre in Sacramento, California reduced its purchases of quaternary ammonium chloride, a chemical used in floor cleaners, by 46 percent.
  • 20 percent labor savings per day – With a microfiber cleaning system, the U C Davis Medical Centre in Sacramento, California saved 638 hours per year for each worker, or about $7,665 in wages.

The Microfiber Cleaning System

Microfiber cleaning cloths or pads are used in conjunction with other innovative technologies and procedures, which are designed to help cleaning professionals clean better while at the same time protecting their physical welfare in a manner far superior to what is offered by conventional cleaning methods.

Key components of a Microfibre Cleaning System involve microfiber cloths, towels, pads, and dusters, which are easily attached to or detached from lightweight, adjustable frames and handles.  These tools are used in conjunction with either divided buckets with bottomless wringers, or self-contained bucket-less implements.
